Challenge yourself in the new year to broaden your reading horizons by exploring our diverse library collection. Try to read 12 of the 13 prompts below. Stop at the Reference Desk if you need help finding a title and to share your favorites with us!

1. Read a modern gothic novel published after 1950.

 

2. Read a crime novel by a marginalized author (BIPOC or LGBTQIA+).

 

3. Listen to an audiobook that is less than six hours long.

4. Read a Women’s Prize for fiction winner from any year.

 

5. Read a memoir written by someone who is trans or nonbinary.

 

6. Read a book of poetry in translation by an Asian poet.

 

7. Read a graphic novel retelling of a fairytale, folklore, or myth.

 

8. Read a romance novel whose main character has a chronic illness or physical disability.

 

9. Read a biography of an indigenous person.

 

10. Read a non-fiction book about a real person that is from an Arabic country or an historic event that took place in an Arabic country.

 

11. Read an Afrofuturism or Afrofantasy novel.

 

12. Read a speculative novel by a Latinx author.

 

13. Read a Young Adult novel that has been adapted into a television show.
