1760 Franklin hand pumper.
1760 Franklin hand pumper. Representative of the type of hand engine in the "Philadelphia style" developed by Pat Lyon of Philadelphia. Used for fire-fighting well into the 19th century. Singe shaft extending left out of the photo suggests that this was pulled by manpower.
