Director: Paul Wendkos. With Dan Duryea, Jayne Mansfield, Martha Vickers, Mickey Shaughnessy
90 min. Not rated.
Shot entirely on location in the Philadelphia area and the Jersey shore, this noirish heist film from the pen of local pulp maestro David Goodis (“Dark Passage”) focuses on a group of crooks led by tough guy Duryea out to rob a spiritualist of a diamond necklace she inherited. Friction among the thieves ratchets up the tension in this stylish, rarely seen gem boasting Bryn Mawr-born Jayne Mansfield in one of her first performances.
